I love to decorate cakes for special occasions and this cake stand makes it sooooo easy!
The cake stand has very smooth running ball barrings and it is quiet when turning.
It turns very easily with a cake on it.

Icing and decorating my cake using this was plastic turntable was incredibly frustrating -- I already own an ateco cast iron base turntable which I love, but I needed to make a cake while on vacation so I opted to purchase this Fat Daddio lightweight one so I wouldn't have to lug my heavy one with me on vacation. The Fat Daddio was easily weighed down by my 6" layer cake -- it would go between spinning smoothly and a spin akin to those garbage plastic quad fischer price roller skates that I had as a kid -- aka terrible, rough, and only with extreme force. When trying to spin the turntable, it would move across the countertop and my cake would also slip from the center of the turntable to the edge which scared the crap out of me that it would fly on the floor!!! Honestly I regretted not bringing my own turntable with me. For 15 bucks it's not worth my time to spend time returning this junk - I'll just use it as a cake stand instead - but I don't recommend it for anyone to use to actually decorate a cake. I was really disappointed, given how much success I've had with other products from Fat Daddio

I'm a "novice" cake baker but unfortunately also very shallow and into outward product appearances. While my heart wants the beautiful Ateco metal turntable cake stand, my compact kitchen said, "No space!" The heart is rarely correct in matters concerning economical decisions anyway. So I first tried the Wilton Trim-N-Turn Ultra Rotating Cake Stand. It worked fine. However, its atrociously green/white color scheme cheapened it. Its ugliness was so unbearable, it was donated to someone less unkind. Although I didn't have much confidence in this product upon purchasing, I comforted my shallow self with its immediately recognizable great features like its compactness and plainness (less to dislike). To be honest, for its low price, I expected cheap flimsy plastic and short life span.

To my very pleasant surprise although it is made of plastic, it doesn't look cheap. It rotates smoothly and the body is well made. It's very easy to store and clean. Decorating is a breeze when coupled with cake rounds. I plan to use it for a long, long time.

I'm a hobbyist baker who decided to make her own wedding cake, and this is one of the tools I bought for the task. Honestly, I wish I'd bought one years ago just to make icing birthday cakes so much easier! This was the most essential of the tools that I acquired for the wedding cake job. It turns smoothly and easily and sits solidly on the counter (no tipping). It's quite a simple device, but the best eleven bucks I've spent on kitchen tools!

I made a 6 layer 3 tier wedding cake 6" 10" and 14". I ended up putting the cake on my 20" wood cake stand and then put it on top of the turntable and to my surprise it holds up and still turn smoothly. I'm so happy I got this instead of the more expensive brand I've been eyeing for a while. It kept moving so I put a piece of cabinet liner and put the stand on top and it never move the whole time. I wish they would make them in 14 and 16 inches to accommodate larger cakes but for now this will do.

All plastic construction was just to light to be useful. Returned item and purchased an all wood one for $7.00 more. Much heavier construction and should perform well as it's used.
